Run 3: The Gravity-Defying Space Runner
Run 3 is basically an endless runner where you play as a little grey alien running through space tunnels. Made by Joseph Cloutier and released around 2013-2014, it became super popular on Coolmath Games. The main thing that makes it different is the gravity mechanic, you can run on walls and ceilings, not just the floor. There are 309 levels in Explore Mode and an infinite mode that just keeps going. Each alien character you unlock has different abilities that change how you approach levels. It's addictive in a way that keeps you coming back.
What is Run 3?
Run 3 is the third game in the Run series, combining platforming with gravity that doesn't work like normal. You're exploring these weird tunnels floating in space, filled with holes and tiles that fall apart. The hook is that you can run on any surface, walls, ceilings, whatever. You control which direction is "down" by rotating the tunnel with arrow keys.
Joseph Cloutier made it and it started on mobile in 2013, then got huge when it hit Coolmath Games in 2017. It's been updated from Flash to HTML5 so it works on modern browsers without any plugins.
What's actually cool is that there's a story woven through the game. The characters are debating whether to go back to their missing planet while they explore these tunnels. It's not your typical endless runner that has no plot. The narrative stuff mixed with the challenging gameplay makes it feel like there's a reason you're doing this.
Why Play Run 3?
- Two Different ModesExplore Mode is the campaign with 309 levels spread through the Main Tunnel and side tunnels. Infinite Mode is endless levels randomly thrown at you. Different vibe entirely.
- Ten Aliens with Different PowersEach character plays completely different. The Runner is balanced, the Skater is fast but bad at turning, the Bunny won't stop jumping. Mixing and matching characters for different levels is strategy.
- Walls and Ceilings are NormalRunning on walls and ceilings changes everything about how you think platforming. You rotate the tunnel and suddenly there's a path you didn't see before.
- Make Your Own LevelsSpend 500 power cells and unlock the level editor. Build your own tunnels, pick tile types, set lighting, create entire level sets.
How to Play Run 3
Arrow keys to move left and right, jump with up arrow or space. Left and right arrows also rotate the tunnel and change gravity. On mobile, tap left and right to move and rotate, tap to jump.
Navigate through tunnels without falling into space. Run on any surface, floor, walls, ceilings, all of it. When you jump off something, press left or right to rotate the tunnel, and you'll land on something that looked unreachable before.
Green flags are checkpoints in Explore Mode, touch them and when you fall you respawn there instead of restarting. Power cells are glowing orbs you collect for currency to unlock stuff.
Pro Tips for Getting Good
Use the Right Character
Don't use the same character for everything. The Child is great on crumbling tile levels. The Bunny works well when you need to be airborne a lot.
Plan Your Route
Figure out the safe path before you get there. Plan your gravity rotations ahead. Levels aren't random so after a few tries you memorize them.
Master Rotating Mid-Jump
Timing when you rotate during a jump separates okay players from good ones. You can change gravity mid-air and land on perpendicular surfaces.
Characters and What They Do
Runner: The starter and best all-around. Balanced at everything. Her ground movement is faster so she's good for precision platforming.
Skater: Very fast but can't jump high. Great for long flat sections, terrible in tight spaces.
Bunny: Can't stop jumping. Weird to use but becomes one of the strongest once you get it. Speedrunners love it.
Child: Has a balloon so falls slowly and won't break crumbling tiles. Obviously use this on crumbling tile levels.
Duplicator: Creates copies that work as platforms or respawn points. The duplicates become literal safety nets.
